Every fall at Success Academy, our school communities become extremely excited for several not-to-be-missed events. One, of course, is the annual Halloween Parade. Another is far less commonly found in schools these days: a good old-fashioned Spelling Bee. We love our Bees because they foster determination and confidence in scholars — plus they’re fun!
Most importantly, Spelling Bees represent an important aspect of the Success Academy approach to teaching writing. SA scholars understand that powerful writing begins with a strong and precise idea, expressed with clarity, purpose, and structure. But even the strongest ideas will be lost to a reader if the spelling and grammar are incorrect. Throughout the year, scholars complete nightly spelling practice; the Spelling Bees are a celebration of their hard work. This year, nearly 100 scholars advanced to the final round of the Spelling Bees.
The following scholars persevered through their school-level Bees to represent their classes — and win — at the Network-wide grade-level Bee. Congratulations!
